Les Mills Brings Immersive Virtual Reality Workouts to Living Rooms with BODYCOMBAT XR App

Les Mills, a global fitness leader, recently launched the LES MILLS BODYCOMBAT XR app, an installment of its virtual reality (VR) fitness app that features groundbreaking new features for the META Quest 3 headset. Developed in collaboration with XR gaming specialist Odders, the app builds upon the success of BODYCOMBAT VR, which is the world’s top-selling VR fitness app and was named META Quest’s Best App of 2022. The new BODYCOMBAT XR app offers an immersive workout experience with the addition of Mixed Reality (MR) mode. This mode combines the user’s real environment with the virtual training space, creating a unique and exciting workout experience.

During the launch of the META Quest 3 headset, META Founder Mark Zuckerberg showcased the BODYCOMBAT XR app as an example of next-level innovation. The new functionality of the headset allows users to choose between fully-immersive VR and MR, where targets and walls appear in their real-world setting. As the most popular martial arts workout globally, BODYCOMBAT is enjoyed by millions each week in top gyms worldwide. Led by program directors Rachael Newsham and Dan Cohen, BODYCOMBAT XR challenges players with martial arts exercises in various levels and settings such as intergalactic deserts and neo-city skylines. Positive reinforcement and coaching cues from Rachael and Dan motivate players throughout their workout.

Les Mills aims to create a fitter planet, and through the launch of the BODYCOMBAT XR app, the company hopes to reach new audiences and remove barriers to exercise. The app is available for purchase in the Quest Store for $29.99, and a Quest 3 headset is required to fully enjoy the game. Existing owners of BODYCOMBAT VR will receive a free update to the new version. The app offers 25 training sessions of varying difficulty levels, taking place in visually stunning environments such as Mars, a snowy tundra, ancient Rome, and a Tokyo-inspired city.

Key features of the BODYCOMBAT XR app include new punch moves and knee strikes, giving users a dynamic fitness session. The app offers different types of workouts, suitable for beginners and advanced enthusiasts alike, with over 50 workout plans available. All workouts are designed to deliver results, and players can track their performance and progress within the app. Renowned instructors Dan Cohen and Rachael Newsham provide coaching and motivation throughout the workouts. Specially-curated soundtracks featuring up-and-coming artists help boost motivation and energy during the workouts. The app also features 11 virtual environments, with the promise of more to come in future updates.

Extended Reality (XR) refers to a new era of technology where virtual elements enhance the user’s surroundings for a Mixed Reality experience. Les Mills is a global leader in group fitness, offering over 25 programs in fitness facilities worldwide. The company’s workouts are refreshed with new choreography and music every three months. Les Mills workouts are delivered by 130,000 certified instructors in 21,000 clubs across 100 countries.
