Fitness Pros Share Insights on Top Fitness Trends for 2024
Toronto, ON – According to the results of the canfitpro Fitness Trends Survey, fitness professionals in Canada are predicting a shift in the industry for 2024. The survey gathered responses from over 1,000 fitness experts, highlighting the trends that are expected to emerge in the coming year. The following are the top five fitness trends identified:
1. Active aging and older adult training: As the population of older adults continues to grow, there is a greater emphasis on fitness to promote mobility and independence in later years. What’s interesting is that younger generations are also prioritizing active aging, investing in lifelong mobility and preventative healthcare.
2. Functional fitness: This trend focuses on bodyweight exercises that improve stability and balance for everyday movements. The emphasis is on core strengthening and primal movements that enhance the body’s ability to twist, bend, and propel forward. These exercises have gained popularity due to their impact on daily activities and overall quality of life.
3. Mental health, mindfulness, and stress reduction: More Canadians are incorporating fitness as part of their self-care routine. Trainers and coaches are adjusting their approach to focus on building confidence, increasing mind-body connection, and reducing stress. Fitness professionals are even pursuing additional training in mindfulness and mental wellbeing to better support their clients.
4. Active recovery and regeneration: In the past, fitness programs were all about pushing the limits and crushing goals. However, there is now a greater emphasis on recovery and regeneration. Gyms are responding to this demand by offering specialized equipment like foam rollers, massage guns, and cryotherapy, as well as regenerative programming such as hot yoga and guided stretching. GoodLife Fitness, for example, has seen three times more members utilizing their Recovery Rooms compared to other amenities.
5. Group fitness with customized formats: While group fitness classes remain popular, there is a growing interest in unique and customized formats. Examples include high-intensity Tabata classes, myofascial stretching, tai-chi, and dance-inspired group fitness programs. People are looking to challenge themselves, try new things, and enjoy the sense of community in a group setting.
These trends were identified through the canfitpro Fitness Trends Survey, which ran from October 23, 2023, to November 3, 2023. More than 65,000 fitness professionals and business owners from across Canada were invited to participate. The survey was conducted using Dynamics 365 Marketing and has a margin of error of +/- 2%.
